The Gospel of John starts off by saying:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” - John 1:1
The Word is none other than our Lord Jesus. If we want to experience Jesus, He reveals Himself through His Word, which is why it is important to read and study the Bible. When we make reading the Bible an everyday practice, we become familiar with Jesus, and will begin to discover who He is, and how unconditionally He loves us. Finally we would be able to comprehend, that we are complete in Christ. The Bible tells us:
"as Christ is, so are we in this world" - 1 John 4:17
Know that everything in the Bible, including the topography of Israel has truths for us to learn that will bring about breakthroughs and blessings. For example, Jesus did three-fourths of His miracles in Galilee, which is a valley way below sea level in Israel, fulfilling the prophecy:
"Every valley shall be exalted…" - Isaiah 40:4
This gives us a lesson about humility and pride, that the humble is exalted and the proud made low. When we are humble, we allow the Lord to exalt us.
The Lord says:
"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" - Matthew 24:35
This is a promise from the Lord Himself that He will preserve His word. The Bible is where the Lord has preserved His word. Though the Bible was written by several people from various backgrounds, across different points of time, they all point to the same God, and prophesy about the coming of the same Messiah, where He will set up His Kingdom on earth. People who read their Bible were aware of certain scientific truths even before science was made into a domain.
Here are some scientific truths from the Bible:
1. Even before gravity was discovered, the Word of the Lord said in the book of Job that the earth hangs on nothing.
"He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing" - Job 26:7
2. There was a time when people believed that the earth was flat and were afraid to travel thinking that they might fall off the edge, but the Word of the Lord said that the earth was a circle.
"It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in" - Isaiah 40:22
People who believe in a flat earth exist even today. Initially, the Greeks believed that it was Atlas who carried the earth on his back. The Hindus believed that the earth was carried by two elephants by their trunks, the Chinese believed that the earth existed on the shell of a tortoise. It was a Bible based thinking that brought about a change in people's perspective towards the earth.
3. Even before advancements in medicine, the Word of the Lord said that the life of man is in his blood.
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul" - Leviticus 17:11
George Washington, the President of the United States, on December 14th 1799, had developed a serious throat infection. The doctors thought that the infection would go away if the blood was removed from his body and started the procedure to remove the blood. Within a 10 hour period, about 3.75 liters of blood was removed from his body, upon which he breathed his last. If only they had known what the Bible said.
4. Noah’s ark was the first ship built on earth which was bigger than the Titanic, and which never sank. Ship builders even today use the same principles for constructions based on the specifications as mentioned in Genesis 6:15, with a little bit of modern design and technology of course. But the basic principle is derived from Noah’s Ark. A person named Ron Wyatt had found Noah's Ark, at mount Ararat, in modern day Turkey, precisely as described in the Bible in Genesis 8:4. Today, the Turkish government has allowed tourists to visit the site.
5. Even before quarantine procedures and protocols were laid out, the Word of the Lord had long ago instructed the Israelites to follow quarantine procedures as described in Leviticus 13:46.
6. Even before forensics for finger print was established, the Word of the Lord had said that the hand of every man has a seal.
"He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work" - Job 37:7
This is so accurate and renders every person unique, as today, due to advancement in technology, we know that even siamese twins have unique finger prints.
7. Even before light waves and radio waves were discovered, the Word of the Lord had described them in the book of Job.
"Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go and say unto thee, Here we are?" - Job 38:35
8. The existence of the dinosaurs is also described in the Bible in the book of Job 40:15-24. The Lord calls it as “behemoth”. People argue that this is not the dinosaur but instead it’s the hippopotamus. But Job 40:17 says that its tail is like the cedar. A cedar tree trunk is long and thick, whereas the tail of the hippopotamus is not.
9. Hygiene principles such as to wash our hands under running water to cleanse germs is mentioned in the book of Leviticus.
"And when he that hath an issue is cleansed of his issue; then he shall number to himself seven days for his cleansing, and wash his clothes, and bathe his flesh in running water, and shall be clean" - Leviticus 15:13
10. Oceanography is described in the book of Psalms.
"The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas" - Psalms 8:8
This way, the Bible contains many truths, which we can appreciate today, as we are aware of them since we have studied them in our schools and colleges. This shows that the Bible is God breathed. When we read the Bible, we would cultivate disciplines, values and principles based on the standards of the Word of God, which we can practice in our day to day life. The Bible is easy to read and understand, and it is for everyone, as stated by Apostle Peter who was an illiterate, saying:
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation" - 2 Peter 1:20
The Bible till today is still the best selling book. Just like how the Lord had promised, He has preserved His Word.
